Thelema was developed in the early 1900s by the English writer, mystic, and cerimonial magician Aleister Crowley .He believed himself to be the prophet of a new age, the Aeon of Horus , based upon a spiritual experience that he and his wife, Rose Edith, had in Egypt .
The word θέλημα (thelema) is rare in classical Greek , where it “signifies the appetitive will: desire, sometimes even sexual”, but it is frequent in the Septuagin .Early Christian writings occasionally use the word to refer to the human will and even the will of God’s opponent, the Devil ,but it usually refers to the will of God.
According to Aleister Crowley, every individual has a True Will, to be distinguished from the ordinary wants and desires of the ego. The True Will is essentially one’s “calling” or “purpose” in life. Some later magicians have taken this to include the goal of attaining self-realization by one’s own efforts, without the aid of God or other divine authority.
DO WHAT THOU WILT
